On the Job (what you do daily and/or weekly): The job slightly different from day to day. Some of what is done is watering, proper maintenance, and care of plants as well as potting. Also part of the job is to keep the nursery stocked and having knowledge on the conditions plants grow best.
Favorite plant and why: Sensitive plant because it may be small, but it is always entertaining when the plant is touched or shaken, the leaves fold up to defends itself from harm as well as to save nutrients on hot dry days.
Where did you get your green thumb: When Iwas 12 I started mowing lawns and detasseling. I always loved being outside whether it was working or long days at the pool. When continuing my education at UNK, not knowing my major, I took what I loved and have done much of my life and transferred to UNL to earn a degree in Horticulture.
Hobbies: I enjoy hunting, fishing and playing softball.
Favorite food: Smoked ribs and potatoes. Ice cream.
Favorite TV Show: Castle and Arrow & Flash
Most important part of the landscape: It is hard to pin point just one thing that is the most important because everything plays a roll. Whether its trees that provide that a park bench with shade or groundcovers that choke out weeds from taking over a garden, it all is important.
Most rewarding part of your job: Seeing something start as a seed or small plug, and within a few weeks it has beautiful growth and colors.
Gardening tool you can’t live without: Shovel and Pruners
Favorite thing to do outside of work: Hanging out with friends and family.
Best part of 2017: I bought a new car.
Biggest goal for 2018: Travel more.
Favorite childhood memory: Staying at my grandparents every Thursday night and Friday while my mom worked.
Favorite snack: Popcorn and Chocolate.
One thing you can’t live without: Coffee
Favorite thing to do at work: Potting seeds and small plugs.
If you were a tree, what would you be and why: A Red Sunset Maple because it provides a great red husker color and would shade my porch while I drink my coffee.
What makes you laugh? My three nieces.
Hidden talent: Make a peacock noise.
Favorite quote: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” -Luke 6:31
