Populus tremuloides 'NE Arb'
Prairie Gold® Aspen
Discovered by the late plantsman, Allen Wilke, in East Central NE, the Prairie Gold Aspen has been adapted to extreme weather conditions including high heat and humidity, allowing it to survive in locations not thought of for other Quaking Aspen seed sources. The leaves rustle in the slightest breeze, are resistant to leaf spot and turn a golden yellow in the fall. A rapid grower, Prairie Gold forms colonies, making it ideal for acreages and alpine settings. At present Prairie Gold is successfully being grown from AL to OK, but the southern range of this native is still being evaluated.
